Intransitive Verb : যে verb-এর অর্থ পরিপূর্ণ করার জন্য object-এর প্রয়োজন পড়ে না অর্থাৎ যে verb-এর object থাকে না তাকে intransitive verb বলে।যেমন- sing, fly, come, go, dance, swim, rise, cry, bark, laugh, arrive ইত্যাদি intransitive verb. The girl sings . Bird flies. He cannot swim. The car stopped.
যেসব verb-এর অর্থ সম্পূর্ণ করার জন্য কোনো Object (কর্ম) প্রয়োজন হয় না এবং যাদের কাজ বা অ্যাকশন কর্তার (Subject) মধ্যেই সীমাবদ্ধ থাকে, তাদের Intransitive verb (অকর্মক ক্রিয়া) বলা হয়।

১. চেনার সহজ উপায়:

কোনো verb Intransitive কি না তা বোঝার জন্য verb-টিকে 'কি' (What) অথবা 'কাকে' (Whom) দিয়ে প্রশ্ন করলে কোনো উত্তর পাওয়া যায় না।

Example: Birds fly. (প্রশ্ন: কি ওড়ে? কাকে ওড়ে? কোনো উত্তর নেই। তাই এটি Intransitive)
Example: He sleeps. (এখানে 'sleeps' নিজেই অর্থ সম্পূর্ণ করছে, কোনো Object লাগছে না)

২. Intransitive verb-এর কিছু গুরুত্বপূর্ণ শ্রেণিবিভাগ:

ক) Linking verb (Copulative verb): কিছু Intransitive verb আছে যা Subject এবং Complement-এর মধ্যে যোগসূত্র তৈরি করে। এদের নিজস্ব পূর্ণাঙ্গ অর্থ প্রকাশের জন্য একটি Adjective বা Noun-এর প্রয়োজন হয়।

শব্দগুলো: Be, Become, Look, Seem, Appear, Feel, Smell, Taste, Sound.
Example: Honey tastes sweet.
Example: He became a doctor.

খ) Ergative verb: কিছু verb আছে যা একইসাথে Transitive এবং Intransitive হিসেবে ব্যবহৃত হতে পারে। যখন Object ছাড়া ব্যবহৃত হয়, তখন তা Intransitive।

Example: The door opened. (Intransitive)
Example: He opened the door. (Transitive)

গ) Intransitive verb of Complete Predication: যেসব verb কোনো সাহায্য বা অতিরিক্ত শব্দ ছাড়াই সম্পূর্ণ অর্থ প্রকাশ করতে পারে।

Example: Fire burns.
Example: The sun shines.

৩. পার্থক্য করার টেকনিক (Transitive vs Intransitive):

৪. সঠিক প্রয়োগ ও সতর্কতা:

Adverb vs Object: মনে রাখবেন, verb-এর পরে কোনো শব্দ থাকলেই তা Object নয়। যদি শব্দটি 'কিভাবে' (How), 'কোথায়' (Where) বা 'কখন' (When) প্রশ্নের উত্তর দেয়, তবে সেটি Adverb, Object নয়।
- Example: He goes to school. (এখানে 'to school' একটি স্থান বা Adverbial, তাই 'go' একটি Intransitive verb)।
Voice Change: Intransitive verb-এর কোনো Object থাকে না বলে এদের Passive Voice করা যায় না।

৫. সচরাচর ব্যবহৃত কিছু Intransitive verb:
